Weekend Expenses
I said on my previous post about a simple budget that I will start tracking my expenses. When I wrote that and resolve to track my spending for a month, I thought to myself, I will probably end up cutting back just because I’m consciously thinking of what I’m spending. Well, that was partly true. We went shopping last Saturday and sometimes I thought what I was spending on and went ahead and did it anyway. There were a couple of times though when I refrained from buying a couple of things because I did not really need it and was more of an impulse buy.
Here’s the damage from this weekend’s foray (I think there may be a couple of cash expenses that I didn’t keep track of) which is actually not too bad compared to other weekends. We didn’t even go out to eat!:
SATURDAY:
Office Chair - bought at a yard sale $10
Grand Asia Market - 57.93
Kerr Drugs - 19.28
Kroger - 42.55
Cigarettes - 31.27
Misc. Snacks - Boba drinks, Milk Shake, Fries, Siopao, etc. - 20.00
SUNDAY:
Krispy Kreme Donuts - 18.47
TOTAL FOOD & MISC EXPENSES: $199.50
BILLS PAID 4/27/08: $206.03
I’m sure you can see right off where I can cut some expenses off. Remember though, I’m just keeping track right now. ![]()

It sounds like a one-two punch then. (I don’t know the actual expression, but hopefully you know what I mean)
First, the awareness of spending the money makes you cut back, and then after you analyze the spending you can cut back even more. Sounds pretty good!
Hi Benny, exactly! Just like any addiction, half the battle is admitting you have a problem. Being conscious of what you’re doing makes you resist the ones you want to avoid.
I’m still tracking, and I’m finding out how much ‘incidental’ spending I do.
